Communications Director / Potential Cofounder Opportunity

Shape the narrative around AI for this movement and broadly. You’ll craft messages that make complex AI risks accessible and actionable for diverse audiences while maintaining scientific accuracy. This role requires translating risks from AI, including existential risk, into compelling calls-to-action. This is a leadership team position, with the opportunity to shape humanity’s response to risks from AI starting from zero. (There is also potential to join as a cofounder, depending on experience.) Responsibilities

• Develop this movement’s communication strategy alongside leadership team
• Develop and continuously test messaging across bipartisan demographics
• Manage multi-channel communications strategy (social, earned media, paid advertising)
• Create crisis communications protocols for AI incidents or movement controversies
• Train spokespeople and chapter leaders on message discipline
• Build relationships with journalists across mainstream and conservative media
• Work with technical subject matter experts to ensure accuracy
• Oversee content creation for website, social media, and campaign materials
• Support fundraising through compelling donor communications

What We’re Looking For

• 4+ years in campaign communications and grassroots messaging
• Track record of earned media wins and social media growth
• Crisis management experience
• Ability to maintain message discipline across distributed volunteer network
• Comfortable with controversial positions and potential public backlash
• Genuine concern for risks from AI, including potential existential risks (mitigating risks from extinction from AI due to loss of control from advanced future AI e.g. here, here, here)
• Excellent internal communication skills, adaptive and responsive to feedback and developments
• Strong strategist and executor: building the movement’s communications from the ground up
• Unwavering commitment to truth-tracking and non-deceptive messaging

• Experience navigating controversial or complex technical topics
• Experience in regulated/restricted messaging environments
• Experience with bipartisan messaging and avoiding political polarization
• Success with A/B testing and data-driven message optimization
• Network of media contacts across political spectrum
• Background in technology communications or complex policy issues

Reporting Structure

Reports to the CEO on the leadership team, or joins as a cofounder.

The Executive Director is intending to have final authority on strategy and external representation, and is responsible for fundraising, hiring, and publicly representing the organization if this is the approach we take. The Grassroots Engagement Director will be responsible for managing the grassroots organizing. You will be an essential ember of this leadersihp team.

Location

Remote with regular travel required (must be authorized to work in US and work US timezone)

Compensation

$XXX base + performance bonuses tied to movement growth metrics + benefits package
